Bali: Ubud and Amed.

I got to go to a really cool school in Ubud for two days and made a new friend called Jaia! She took me to a cat cafe (cats all over the place) and a dog shelter called B.A.R.C.( BALI ADOPTION AND REHABILITATION CENTER ). At B.A.R.C there was a poor three legged dog that nobody wanted. It made me feel sad.

The CAT CAFE, lots of cats to pat, guaranteed rat free unlike some other cafes.
Dogs at B.A.R.C dreaming of the CAT CAFE.

Dad and I went to monkey forest together. It is a beautiful monkey sanctuary/park near the center of town with over 700 monkeys free to come and go as they please.

Monkey on my back! Monkeys here average one serious bite on tourists a day.Treatment for a bite may mean a flight to Singapore and lots of injections. Dad bought a stout stick along. Monkeys behaved well.

A monkey climbed on to my head, I felt its smooth cool feet on my face as it clambered up to grab the Banana I held high.

On our way out of the park we saw a beautiful wedding couple dressed in traditional Balinese costumes.

This lovely couple were kind and gracious.

Next we were off to Amed with Reno, our driver. Amed is a dry village by the sea famous for its snorkeling and diving. We stayed there for four nights spending our time snorkeling, swimming and relaxing. I love snorkeling. I forgot to mention one of the highlights of Nusa Lembongan.

Snorkeling with giant manta-rays should have been unforgettable but with all the excitement I managed to forget it until now.

On our last day in Amed we hired Motorbikes and zoomed up a very steep mountain surrounded by lush bright green paddy fields to a beautiful temple high in the clouds. Its called Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang, very hard to pronounce.

The next day Reno picked us up from our motel at 9 am, then we said goodbye to Amed and hello to Sanur where we visited mums old friend Lisa. She is a lovely lady  one of mums good friends. She has two boys the age of three and seven. Four little boys all together , what a nightmare! After that we headed back to our beautiful private Villa where we spent our last two days relaxing, packing and collecting all our stock that we had ordered when we were last in Legian.

Then it was Bye Bye Bali and back to snowy Queenstown!

Bali : Legian and Nusa Lembongan

Bali is a tropical country where there are ornate carvings on every building from top to bottom. I am there now and am amazed at how beautiful and intricate they are.

The door to our room in a cheap hotel.

We arrived at 9pm and went straight to our Villa where we relaxed for a day then went head first into shopping for stock for our shop. The first day we went to Ketuts shop to order rainbow fairy dresses and frilly rainbow skirts. The next day we went back to Ketuts to get fitted for our new circus costumes.

Nudey swimming at our sweet Villa!

After spending 4 days in Legian shopping up a storm we caught a ferry to Nusa Lembongan where we stayed at  the Tamarind beach bungalows for 4 nights. In New Zealand Mum and I had dreamed of going back to the Beach Club (we went there when I was 5) and sure enough we found ourselves at the Beach Club laying on massive cushions eating, swimming, relaxing and fulfilling our dream.

Chilling at the beach club.

I am disgusted at the fact that the island is covered in rubbish. The locals just don’t seem to care and what is collected is burnt. No recycling here!

All waste burnt together at night to hide the acrid smoke drifting through town.(gave us sore throats)

After a hot and tiring walk in the midday heat from Tamarind beach to Jungatbatur (main town) we reached our destination, Wahyu home-stay.

Cute little kids shop. They did well out of us. Shouldn’t they be at school?

The next day we hired 2 motorbikes, Dad and the boys went on one and Mum and I went on the other. It was a bit scary as it was Mums first time driving a motorbike. Terrified we set off to tiki-tour the islands but in the end it turned out to be great fun. Mum was awesome! ( she asked me to put that in).

On rugged hill track overlooking the channel between Nusa Cenigan and Nusa Lembongan.
Crossing the new yellow bridge. The old one collapsed a year before loaded with locals on their way to a ceremony. 8 died and 34 were wounded. Terribly sad.

The rules are different on Lembongan, school kids ride motorbikes to school, no helmets so I thought I would give Dad a tour of the island.

Every night we ate at a cute little shack on the beach selling delicious food. After 8 days on Lembongan we took a ferry to Bali and headed for Ubud. Farewell Lembongan!

Queenstown for winter.

We arrived in Queenstown exhausted and sick after a busy fun season. We started off with 6 weeks of house-sitting.

I curled up like a cat on the couch and enjoyed an enormous flat screen T.V with Netflix.

I was excited to start school again after a year of homeschooling. But the kids did not really welcome me with open arms. The girls were horrible and the boys, well lets just say they were just boys. I was disappointed. The silver lining was my teacher Miss Adele. She was lovely.

While house-sitting we had our first flurry of snow, enough to make a snowman and hide the enormous dog poos of Charlie the chocolate Lab we were dog-sitting.

It was time to get cracking literally on our next seasons circus show. I learned how to crack a whip. Our friend Shannon stayed with us for a few days. He is a Circus pro and helped us with our acro-balance. Soon after that we came up with our new magic show (a fun creative process)and began practice.

I had a fun birthday party with my Queenstown friends. I went to regular aerial hoop classes, dance classes and musical theater classes. I was working pretty hard.

Melody my lovely Ballet teacher.

We moved into our little old house in Authers point. It is about twice the size of our house truck, really cozy and warm with a big kitchen(great for baking) and lots of good memories.

One of the highlights of winter was the Luma light festival in Queenstown gardens. There were many beautiful light displays from different artists. Some were interactive. My favorite was a giant mirror ball hung high among tall pine trees with multi colored spotlights shining on it.

While Dad was working at Dart river jet in Glenorchy for a few weeks we all went on a beautiful jet boat ride. I got to drive the 700 horsepower twin V8 jet boat and do some spins. That was fun.

That is some of what we got up to over the winter but overall we found winter to be long, cold and a little boring…that is until we went to Bali!

Petone

Shopping, shopping, shopping! In Palmerston North after the fair we spent the morning shopping for winter cloths for the boys. We went to the bank and Mum and Dad paid us all for the North Island. I felt proud of myself. To celebrate we went to a cool cafe.

We drove to Masterton in a flurry of excitement. Through the Manawatu Gorge which is now closed indefinitely due to a massive slip.

We parked at Auntie Carolyn and Uncle Des’s  land with Jola Josie. It was a lovely family filled two nights including a sleep-over with Nana and Pa. Next it was off to Lyall bay, Wellington.

Lyall bay is a place in Wellington from which you can see the Airport with planes taking off and landing. You can also see the ferries going to and fro. There are lots of cool rock pools to play in as well as pretty Paua shells.

On Thursday we had a town day. We went to Te papa and the Sushi train restaurant with our cousins Deleshia and Ijaan. It was lots of fun and very windy.

We set up for our very last fair of the season in Petone!

It was only a one day fair because we had the end of season party on Saturday night and did not want to trade the next day.

All ready to end of season jungle party.

We spent Sunday getting everyone out of the mud before a strong southerly wind hit and blew waves over the grounds. We missed our ferry since we were stuck in mud. By the time we got out, crossings were cancelled because of the wind.  We crossed a day later and it was rough enough.

Group chunder of chips and tomato sauce.

Palmerston North

On Tuesday morning after the Extravaganza Mum and I had the girls date I had been waiting for since New Plymouth. We went to see the new Beauty and the Beast movie, its amazing! My favorite scene is when the Beast is starting to be kind and she realizes that in her heart she is starting to love him. I also loves the singing the dancing and the costumes. If I was going to be in a movie it would be that one!

After the movie we went to Ujazi cafe. Did you know Ujazi means to provide in Swahili? Then we went to meet up with Dad and the boys at Haumoana where we stayed two nights right next to the beach.

Writing for my blog at Hamoana beach.

Dad went hunting and shot a Sika deer then hung it in a tree outside the truck. Mum and I were disgusted but the boys were intrigued. Mum got confused and wanted to become a vegetarian. But I will remain a picky omnivore till the end of my days!

We were so so tired because we have done so many Extravaganzas and have worked so hard. Palmerston North was just a two day fair and on Saturday night Dad and I and most of the Gypsy’s went 10 pin bowling, I even got a strike!

Museum of Art, Science and Technology in Palmerston North.

Its hard to believe that this is the second to last Extravaganza of the season! Next weekend Petone.

Napier

Reddish orange, purpley pink. The cloud dotted skies are ablaze with colour as the sun awakes over Hawkes Bay.

Six thirty am and I am sitting in my sleeping bag watching the sun rise from Sunrise hut in the Ruahine ranges.. Last night i did not get much sleep because I was sick.

This week we have Caslym (pronounced Salem) with us. She is one of our Gypsy kids. She is very entertaining and fun!

After our 3 hour tramp up to Sunrise Hut we were all quite tired so we went back to Granddads house where our truck had parked while we were tramping. We even got to have a bath!

My Granddad.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a soak at Ocean spa hot pools once again. They have one lovely warm pool, two spa pools, one cold kids pool, one cold pool and a lap pool, plus this is all beachfront. I think i am starting to sound a bit like an advertisement! Afterwards Caslym and I went to cheer-leading class with Bay-City Cheer. We did lots of teamwork and activities.

Later on Wednesday we had to get on the grounds early due to the fact that heavy rains and gales were forecast.

On Thursday we had a mellow day of school work and baking. It was a busy busy four day Extravaganza interspersed with a Grease movie night and an Easter egg hunt.

Dressed up for Grease movie night.

My friend Maya came to visit us at the Extravaganza. Maya is the daughter of Mums childhood friend Kirsten. We went on a mini train ride together. It was fun until I stepped on a horrible prickle!

With Maya.

As we tried to leave on Tuesday morning we found we were stuck as we had feared but we managed to get out in the end.

Next weekend Palmerston North.

Hastings

“Ah lovely” submerging yourself in hot water is pure heaven! Morere hot pools were just that.

After our hot soak we drove to lake Tutira and stayed the night. The scenery was amazing but the fact that it was still raining wasn’t the best.

The next morning in the pouring rain we drove to Granddad and Roz’s and proceeded to immediately  get stuck in their paddock. Roz saved the day by pulling our truck out of the mud with her tiny car.

Oh look! I am already up to more hot pools. I highly recommend Ocean Spa hot pools on the waterfront in Napier, five stars!

After another heavenly  soak I went to my first ever cheer-leading class with bay-city cheerleaders. I loved it!

On Friday morning we setup at Windsor park, right next to Splash Planet, but sadly it was closed and isn’t opening until November.

That weekend it was Danielle’s (14 year old Gypsy-girl) first time on fire poi. She was stunning!

On Saturday night we went down the road to see a colourful Chinese light show. It was beautiful.

Well that was Hastings. See ya.

East cape and Gisborne

Marae’s , majestic Maori carvings, expansive ocean, rocky cliffs, winding roads, so many horses, dilapidated houses, rusty broken cars and staunch friendly people.

House for rent. cheap!

This is what I saw out of our truck window while traveling the east cape.

When the locals heard about hotmail they realised they had to move with the times!

We traveled the east cape with Tiwai, Lette and Simone. We spent the first night at Waiou bay where we went to the Pub(the one from the movie boy) for dinner. Yum!

Afterwards we made a movie called girl.

The next day we moved onto East cape. We stayed at a beautiful camp ground(paddock) next to the roaring sea. That night it poured with rain. Drip, drip, drip, my roof leaks!  In the morning the sun broke out as we drove to the East cape lighthouse.

All on the road to east cape.

As Dad walked backwards to get this shot we all heard a loud “Bugger!”

Bugger!
Meeting a friendly local.

We had to walk up 800 steps to get to the light house!

A view worth 800 steps. As east as it gets.

I love churches! (I am not religious). We went to the Tiki Tiki church on our way to Anarua bay. I was so surprised to find a church completely filled with beautiful Maori designs. This church is a must see.

Anarua bay is a lovely place to stop. We stayed there a night and in the morning I did my school work then played and played at the awesome beach with Tewai, Lette and my brothers.

Finally we made it to Gisborne where we set up for another Extravaganza. On Saturday night we had a Goat potluck. It was Delicious.

Helen Stokes, the lady who kindly gave us her late Husband Murry’s magic props came to visit us at the Extravaganza and watched our magic show. Later she told us she had not been sure how she would feel to see his props in action again. Happily she found it wonderful to see them being used once more. Dad and I were delighted to have her come along.

Helen Stokes visiting us at the Extravaganza.

That weekend was very hot and quite tiring. We all got quite grumpy, but all in all it was a lovely week/weekend.

Ohope beach

Rats! Rats! Rats! Dad shot three of them out of the truck window and killed one with a hammer! Needless to say the rats at Port Ohope were terrible. We stayed there for the week after Mt Maunganui.

                                                                           Rocket making!
                                                                              Ready for blast off!

It was a lovely week of play , school work and rocket making.

On Monday we went to the classic flyers museum at Tauranga airport with Colin and Maria, it was incredible! My favorite exhibit was the Catalina flying boat.

On Thursday night at midnight I went into Mums bed with severe abdominal pain fearing I had appendicitis. I was rushed off to hospital. After being checked over by kind doctors I was sent home completely  painless!?

Ohope beach is one of New Zealands most loved beaches. The Extravaganza sets up right next to the beautiful beach at an amazing playground with a big flying fox!

Mt Maunganui

After the traumatizing Sundaise experience, we moved on to Bowentown. It was rainy and grey and we felt lonely without any of the other Gypsies so we moved onto Plumbers point and stayed at Simones Mums place with Tiwai and Lette. Lots of Gypsies were there and they made us feel so welcome.

The Adults had a big party while us kids played. We had a very enjoyable time. On Thursday we moved early to the grounds to have an interview with the Sunlive newspaper.

We set-up and went to the beach where we dug channels and tide pools and explored the realm of sea creatures in the rock pools.

Mt Maunganui beach

The weekends Extravaganza was not the the most busy fair. Dallas made an adorable little crystal shop which he was so proud of.

Dallas’s Crystal shop.

The Gypsies had a loud party and I could not get to sleep, it was very annoying.

All and all it was a nice quiet week.
